Commission a Work
James accepts six to nine private commissions each year for collectors seeking original photographic works created for a particular person, place or architectural setting.
WHY COMMISSION A WORK?
Some collectors wish to celebrate a relationship.
Others wish to transform a landscape into memory.
Some simply want to inhabit James’ visual world rather than purchase an existing edition.
Each commissioned work enters the artist’s archive and is approached with the same care, authorship and permanence as any work prepared for exhibition.

Every commission begins with a conversation. James develops an original concept in response to the collector, the setting and the ideas that will shape the work before moving through production to a finished museum-grade archival print. Selected progress updates are shared throughout the process, which concludes with conservation framing and a certificate of authenticity.

Every commission includes concept development, photography, compositing, museum-grade archival printing, conservation framing and a certificate of authenticity. Travel and location-specific production costs are quoted separately where required.
